News briefs: FLYONE, BTA and airport drop-off charges

Luton Airport is getting a new service to Bucharest this summer with FLYONE Airlines. Operating daily, flights will begin on May 15, with a range of fare options (Light, Standard, Loyal, Advantage). The airport said the new connection will further strengthen its route network in eastern Europe.

Andrew Whitaker, Operations Team Leader at Reed & Mackay, has become Generation BTA Board Chair, taking over from long-standing chair Georgia Suttie. Isaac Teague, Regional Sales Manager for SME Europe at FCM Travel, will be taking on the position of Vice Chair for the Board, which empowers emerging talent in the business travel industry.

Gatwick Airport has increased its drop-off fee from £7 to £10, following similar moves by other UK airports. The jump makes Gatwick the most expensive airport for drop-off fees in the UK. Bristol has just announced a rise, with Heathrow and London City following suit, creating a worrying trend of punishing travellers rather than supporting them,” said Clive Wratten, CEO at the Business Travel Association. “A sensible cap on drop-off and pick-up charges would prevent this trend from spreading and ensure airports remain accessible to everyone.”
