United expands new Boeing 787-9 cabin design on London routes

United Airlines is rolling out its United Elevated interior on new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, now flying on all three daily flights between London (LHR) and San Francisco (SFO).

It will also debut on the airline’s London (LHR) to Houston (IAH) route from 6 January 2027.

The redesigned cabin introduces eight United Polaris Studio suites, 56 United Polaris suites, 35 United Premium Plus seats and updated Economy cabins.

The Polaris Studio suites are positioned in the first row of each Business Class section and are 25% larger than standard United Polaris seats. Each features a privacy door, an additional ottoman seat for companions, wireless charging, Bluetooth connectivity and a 27-inch 4K OLED seatback screen.

The eight lie-flat Studio suites are arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration across two sections. Passengers will also receive exclusive entrée options, an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche service and new amenity kits featuring luxury skincare products.

The 56 United Polaris suites will also feature sliding privacy doors and larger 19-inch 4K OLED screens. The Business Class cabin will offer all-aisle access, with customers able to choose between seats facing the window or centre of the aircraft and suites facing the aisle.

United Premium Plus will have 35 seats, the highest number in the airline’s fleet, with privacy dividers and wireless charging. The aircraft will also feature 33 United Economy Plus seats and 90 United Economy seats.

The aircraft’s onboard entertainment system will include larger screens, while Bluetooth connectivity will be available throughout the cabin. Aircraft with the Elevated interior will also be among the first United widebody aircraft to offer free Starlink connectivity to MileagePlus members.

United has also invested more than $150 million in food and beverage improvements in 2025, with the Elevated aircraft featuring an onboard grab-and-go snack bar for Polaris customers offering products from Garrett’s, Community and Joe & Seph’s.

Polaris Studio passengers will also have access to an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche paired with Champagne Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé, while mid-flight meal options will include a regionally influenced tapas service. Economy passengers will have three entrée choices, new desserts and an appetiser course.

Andrew Nocella, EVP and Chief Commercial Officer at United, said: “We already deliver a superior international experience and fly to the most places across the Atlantic and Pacific – these new innovations provide a more premium experience overall, give customers even more reasons to choose United, and set our airline up to grow into the next decade and beyond. We never stand still and are always looking for more ways to set ourselves apart from other airlines. And we’re confident this elevated experience will take international flying to new heights.”

United’s first 787-9 with the Elevated interior entered international service in 2026, with initial routes from San Francisco to Singapore and London.

All future Boeing 787 deliveries will receive the Elevated interior and Polaris Studio suites, with United expecting around 30 of the aircraft to join its fleet by 2027. The aircraft is now also being deployed on additional long-haul routes, including services from Houston to São Paulo, Tokyo, Sydney and London.
