ITM unveils sustainability initiatives for Brighton conference

ITM is looking to help buyers tackle sustainable travel objectives at its empower Conference in Brighton and is also giving delegates the chance to give something back.

The 2024 agenda includes a question-time style session called ‘Is Our Industry Sustainable?’ when an expert panel of buyer and supplier leaders challenge each other as to whether the industry is doing enough to meet net-zero targets.

The session picks up on themes raised at ITM’s recent Road to Net Zero Summit in London and the business travel community’s desire for collaboration and support in addressing the industry’s sustainable travel challenges.

ITM has also confirmed initiatives to ensure the event, taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Brighton Metropole on April 24-25, has minimum impact on the environment.

It has partnered with EventCycle, whose mission is to reduce waste post event by repurposing and redistributing materials to encourage a circular economy. Once again, table floral centrepieces will be donated to a local nursing home at the end of the conference.

Delegates will also get the opportunity to take part in a beach clean on Brighton’s seafront on day two, prior to opening sessions.

Direct ATPI and its ‘Measure, Reduce, Compensate’ product, ATPI Halo, will offset travel to and from the conference for the 500-plus delegates.

The agenda for this year’s conference also features ‘Platform 24’, a debate between four buyers and four suppliers discussing the economics, impact and realisation of modern booking platforms.

In addition, five Buyer Knowledge Exchange breakout sessions, led by ITM Board and Associate Directors, will cover travel technology, distribution, content and OBTs, embedding sustainable practice, accessibility and meetings and events.

There will also be keynote interviews with Bob Somers, Senior Vice President Global Sales, Delta Air Lines, Stephan Baars, President and CEO, BCD Travel and Steve Cassidy, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Hilton UK & Ireland

ITM is supporting local charity BMECP Food Bank, which provides emergency care packages for people in crisis who live in Brighton and Hove.

Conference delegates have been asked to donate essential household items, including non-perishable food items at registration. Buyers and sponsor partners will work together as part of ITM’s empower Mission on day two to create care packages including these items which will be donated to BMECP.

Wellbeing and inclusivity initiatives include a run or walk along the seafront, Pilates and yoga classes in the pod at the top of Brighton’s iconic i360 and – new for this year – outdoor swimming at Sea Lanes Brighton.

In addition, ITM’s buddy programme will support first-timers, those new to the industry, or attending solo, with meeting points at networking and social elements where they can head to connect with fellow delegates.
