And finally… TBTM’s hat-trick of awards

The Business Travel Magazine landed a hat-trick of accolades at this week's Business Travel Journalism Awards, including the coveted Editor of the Year category.

Organised by CWT, the annual awards for ‘outstanding events and business travel journalism’ took place at the Corinthia Hotel in London, with event host Colin Murray revealing the 13 winners.

The Business Travel Magazine had two shortlisted entries in the Supplement of the Year category, with The 2019 Guide to Serviced Apartments, written by Catherine Chetwynd, named the winner.

“Tackling an old subject but managing to bring new life and vigour into it, is a neat trick to pull off, and this supplement succeeds in that,” said the judges.

“A growing option for travellers, this supplement is highly useful for reference purposes and will ensure it has a long shelf life.”

Meanwhile, freelance journalist Gary Noakes was named Features Journalist of the Year in the Air Travel category for his ‘Suite Sensations’ article in the June/July 2019 issue of The Business Travel Magazine.

The judges gave the article a ‘near-perfect score’, adding: “this is a succinct and insightful feature explaining the developments within business class travel and changes within business travel policy. Great writing style, in-depth analysis and broad scope of content.”

Lastly, the Editor of the Year category, which recognises the editor who “demonstrates the best leadership, enterprise and coverage”, was won by Andy Hoskins, with judges declaring The Business Travel Magazine a “clean, modern and easy to read publication that everyone in the business actually picks up and which brings real value”.

In addition, Gillian Upton received a Highly Commended award in the Features Journalist of the Year – Ground Transport category, while regular contributors Rob Gill and Dave Richardson were shortlisted for awards.

“Talented writing can really bring the potential of business travel and meetings and events to life – and in the 16th BTJAs, it was exciting to read so many creative submissions from new and more established entrants,” said Julian Walker, CWT’s Head of External Market Communications and PR.

“From the impact of bleisure, to investigating plane seatback cameras, the breadth of entries was extraordinary, and a testament to the dynamism, creativity and talent in travel journalism today.”

Congratulations to all the team and a big thanks to our talented contributors.
