hub by Premier Inn Farringdon (Old Bailey)

THE HOTEL

A former police station, this flagship hub by Premier Inn opened in February 2026, retaining many of its original Victorian features. It’s a two-minute walk from City Thameslink station or six minutes’ walk from St Paul’s or Farringdon tube stations.

THE CHECK-IN

As the receptionist was helping another guest I used one of the two self check-in desks. Quick and easy, I popped in my booking number and was able to activate my key cards. As a lone female traveller I appreciated that it didn’t announce my room number but instead printed it on a slip. I could have also answered a prompt to display it on the screen. A member of the team came over to check I was OK with the process, which was nice touch.

THE ROOM

I needed to use my room key to activate the lift and my standard room, 401, was close to the lifts so no need to walk down long corridors. Ideal for one person, my room had a queen-size bed against the wall. A pull-out desk extends out from the foot of the bed. I had a nice view of local churches from the window. Lighting at three levels was controlled from a console built into the headboard. Other highlights included a 40’’ TV and two bottles of complimentary still water. A self-service tea and coffee bar is open 24/7 next to the reception on level 1. The ensuite bathroom was immaculate with a large shower featuring both hand-held and overhead options and a large bottle of Baylis and Harding luxury hair and body wash. Excellent soundproofing meant I slept soundly.

THE FACILITIES

A large bar/restaurant has a fully-stocked bar with a good selection of spirits, cocktails, mixers, bottled beers and ciders. Happy hour runs from 5-7pm offering two drinks for £9 so I enjoyed a Prosecco, although for just £12 I could have had two cocktails. A limited menu features staples like pizzas, pasta and curry. Breakfast costs £8 and includes cereals, hot porridge, yogurt, fruits and various pastries and preserves and a decent cooked breakfast. A shout-out must go to Nerz who was on duty both days and was very polite and helpful.

THE VERDICT

Premier Inn’s super compact ‘hubs’ tick all the boxes thanks to clever design to maximise the small space.
