Voting deadline approaches for 2024 GBTA elections

Candidates for the GBTA elections 2024 are stepping up their campaigns as the voting deadline approaches.

Cristina Chimenti, Head of Global Travel at Sky, Carlos Almendros, Global Procurement Service Leader Travel for Cisco, and Katie Virtue, Head of Sales and Marketing at Festive Road, are among those standing for roles in the upcoming elections. 

Chimenti is running for European Regional At-Large, Almendros for Direct At-Large and Virtue for Allied At-Large.

Voting closes on June 25 and is open to all GBTA members. In addition, members of ITM can convert the membership to include GBTA at no extra cost and then cast a vote.

Here are the manifestos for the three candidates:

Cristina Chimenti

As your candidate for European Regional At-Large Director on the board of GBTA my vision is to foster a truly global community of travel industry professionals that thrives on adapting and evolving to the dynamic industry trends we all face. To deliver that, I’m committed to:

  • Focus on change, identifying how we can develop case studies, methodologies and support for change management to help buyers and suppliers through these challenging times
  • Work to highlight start-ups that can offer diverse and innovative solutions to help the industry learn and adapt faster
  • Continue to connect our travel community in Europe and across the globe leveraging our relationships and diverse backgrounds to learn from each other

I’m the perfect cultural combination to deliver a global view with a European lens. I’m British-Italian and have spent my working career in global organisations and with people from different background and nationalities. I balance passion and practicality; I love my job as Head of Travel in Sky and have a background in finance and project management as well as previous Board experience, more recently with ITM. I bring a different perspective when we need it most. I’m active in the industry, listening and talking to colleagues and suppliers to understand what issues we are all going through and finding creative solutions.

Carlos Almendros

Katie Virtue

I am running for the GBTA Board to change the narrative. I fully support the GBTA strategy of learning, community and advocacy. I see it as my role as a board director to support the GBTA team with delivery of its goals and to bring insights by listening and representing you, the member community. To do so I will utilise my passion for the industry and knowledge of the macrotrends affecting our sector to:

  • Learning: Support travel to own a ‘Seat at the Table’
  • Community: Make our industry the most desirable career choice
  • Advocacy: Accelerate impact through external partnerships
