American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) will introduce a major upgrade to its hotel emissions calculations and reporting in the third quarter of 2025.
The upgrade is facilitated by Amex GBT’s expanded partnership with Chooose, whose software will be integrated into supply data.
Clients will be able to customise their hotel emissions calculations, providing more precise data and broader global coverage. The new tool also supports Amex GBT’s Consulting and Meetings and Events teams with enhanced reporting capabilities
The enhanced reporting capability will help customers analyse hotel-related emissions in greater detail. The feature will help travel managers and analysts access standardised emissions data to support smarter and more informed decision-making.
Clients will have the flexibility to choose from multiple emissions factor providers, including the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (UK BEIS) and Greenview data sets. Both are aligned with the industry-standard Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI) methodology.
Greenview emissions factors cover approximately 250 countries and territories, more than 100 states and provinces, and over 240 metro areas. Rather than using only national averages, this means reporting can be done at the country, region and city levels.
Complimenting traveller-facing hotel sustainability tools at the point of sales, emissions data stored in Amex GBT’s proprietary systems, including the Global Trip Record (GTR) and Data Lake, ensure clients receive consistent emissions data across their travel programmes.
Methodologies used by Chooose to calculate greenhouse gas emissions from hotel stays align with HCMI reporting requirements.
John Sturino, Senior Vice President of Product and Engineering at Amex GBT, said: “This is about giving our clients better data, better tools, and better decision-making power. We’ve engineered this capability to deliver more granular emissions data, deeply integrated into our platforms, so customers can access the insights they need, right where they need them.”
Nora Lovell Marchant, Vice President of Global Sustainability at Amex GBT, added: “With more accurate data, these improved hotel emissions reporting capabilities can help companies better assess their travel programme’s environmental impact.”
