T’way Air to launch four new European routes

Korean budget airline T’way Air is set to launch flights to four European cities later this year.

The airline will gradually roll out flights from Seoul Incheon International Airport to Paris, Rome, Barcelona and Frankfurt in the second half of 2024.

T’way Air has been appointed as the “remedy taker” on the designated routes, following Korean Air’s acquisition of Asiana Airlines, which has now been approved by the European Commission (EC).

“These measures are designed to maintain a competitive environment in the relevant markets,” said Korean Air, which has committed to provide “comprehensive support” to T’way Air.

Korean Air announced its £1.2 billion acquisition of Asiana in 2020, but completion of the deal was deferred until approval was secured from 14 competition regulators. The airline is still awaiting clearance from the US.

“With the EC approval secured, Korean Air continues to be focused on its discussions with the US competition authority to finalize the overall merger review processes as soon as possible.”

Korean Air has also announced plans to make slots available for Virgin Atlantic to operate between London and Seoul. More details will be announced in due course.
