The personal touch
As DiamondAir unveils a new lounge at London Heathrow, founder and CEO Christina Lawford outlines the thinking behind the concept
Tell us about the new DiamondAir Lounge
The lounge combines remote check-in capabilities on selected airlines, baggage handling and personalised concierge support into one connected Heathrow experience. It was designed in response to growing airport congestion and evolving traveller expectations to create a calmer, more efficient and more personalised journey for premium travellers.
Passenger numbers continue to grow globally, but is the airport experience evolving quickly enough for premium travellers?
Not really. Airports are handling record passenger volumes, but many of the core passenger processes remain largely unchanged. Travellers are still navigating congested terminals, repeated queues and increasingly crowded lounge environments.
At DiamondAir, we felt there was an opportunity to rethink parts of the journey and create something calmer, more efficient and more personalised for premium travellers. The DiamondAir Lounge was developed as a natural extension of our Airport Concierge services and reflects what we know our customers are increasingly looking for from modern travel experiences.
What are premium travellers now looking for from the airport experience that they were not prioritising a few years ago?
There is definitely a greater focus on wellbeing and the emotional side of travel. Luxury today is increasingly about how efficiently and smoothly the journey feels. Travellers want privacy, discretion and environments that reduce stress rather than add to it. For many frequent travellers, airports can become operationally exhausting, particularly during peak periods. Increasingly, travellers are looking for experiences that give them greater control over the journey itself.
How does the DiamondAir Lounge build on your existing Airport Concierge services?
Our customers are not simply looking for lounge access they are looking for a better overall journey. The DiamondAir Lounge works alongside our Airport Concierge services to create a more connected Heathrow experience. Guests can combine chauffeur transfers, baggage handling, remote check-in capabilities on selected airlines and concierge support into one personalised journey. The lounge also creates additional flexibility for arriving guests, whether as a private environment before onward meetings, a place to refresh after a flight or as part of a smoother transition before hotel check-in times. For many travellers, particularly those arriving early in London, this creates a far more comfortable and productive arrival. Rather than focusing on one moment within the airport process, we are looking at how we can reduce friction throughout the entire experience.
Why do you believe demand is growing for remote check-in?
Because travellers increasingly value time, control and convenience. Remote check-in changes the rhythm of travel completely. Instead of arriving at Heathrow already focused on queues, baggage and timings, guests can begin their journey in a much calmer and more seamless way. At DiamondAir, we offer remote check-in both from the comfort of a guest’s home or hotel and from within the DiamondAir Lounge itself on selected airlines. It’s about upstreaming processes and taking the airport to the passenger. That flexibility allows us to create more personalised journeys around the traveller rather than forcing travellers through a rigid airport process.
What does the future of personalised premium travel look like to you?
I believe the future of premium travel is centred on personalisation, efficiency and removing friction from the journey. Travellers still value luxury, but increasingly they are prioritising experiences that feel intuitive and designed around their individual needs. At DiamondAir, we believe innovation comes from rethinking traditional passenger processes and putting the traveller journey at the heart of everything we do.
