Sarah Jayne-Holley, Buyer of the Year

Receiving the Buyer of the Year Award has spurred Sarah Jayne-Holley to 'continue, learn and grow within the industry'.

What does it mean to you to win a 2024 Business Travel People Award?

It means a lot to be nominated, let alone win this award. After entering this category a couple of years ago, I have learnt a lot and, in partnership with Clarity, improved the business travel services for the John Lewis Partnership. It is great validation of how much we have achieved so far and gives me such a boost to continuously develop.

How did you feel when your name was called?

This was my first time attending the Business Travel People Awards, so I must admit I was full of nerves and excitement. The support I have from Clarity and my peers helped me overcome nerves. I was so shocked to win this fantastic award. It’s still sinking in!

What was the reaction of your family, friends and colleagues when you won the award?

Everyone has been so supportive and complimentary, including Clarity and the travel network. The John Lewis Procurement team has overwhelmed me with celebrations. My husband and children are very proud, too.

How do you think winning the award will impact your profile in the wider industry?

To me, this award was a great achievement and an opportunity to honour all those who have helped get me where I am today. This award is just the beginning for me. There are many more goals I have set for myself. Receiving this award means I have an obligation to continue, learn and grow within the industry and be an advocate for shaping how we move forward.

What advice would you give to anyone considering entering the awards?

Being relatively new to the industry, I felt that I had not done enough to be recognised. This has taught me that even small changes can make a big difference. It has given me confidence to not doubt myself. For anyone considering entering, go for it! What you’re doing is great work and the business travel community is so supportive.

Where will you be keeping your award?

I will be keeping my award on display on my desk, just to remind me each day how far I have come and inspire me to keep believing in myself.
