Sales and Marketing Team, Wings Global Travel

Don’t play it safe, says Rebecca Gunn, Head of Global Marketing at Wings Travel, after her team was named Sales and Marketing Team of the Year in the 2025 People Awards

What does it mean to you to win a 2025 Business Travel People Award?

Thrilled! It is so fantastic for the team to be recognised for this campaign as we are all so passionate about it. We had a wonderful round of applause when we arrive at the office the next morning, which made it even more memorable.

How did you feel when your team’s name was called?

Honestly, it was such a proud moment. It’s a real honour to be recognised, especially knowing how much hard work has gone into what we do. What made it even more special was that it shone a spotlight on the younger talent in the team. This win really felt like a celebration of everything they’ve helped us achieve. It wasn’t about viral moments or vanity metrics: it was about pushing boundaries and being brave creatively. The award just made that real for everyone around us.

What was the reaction of your family, friends and colleagues when you won the award?

There was definitely a moment of celebration. Our colleagues were thrilled, not just because we won, but because it recognised something that felt very different for the travel industry. Friends and family were, of course, proud. It was a fruit basket moment (my friend and I randomly send each other baskets of fruit when we have big celebrations… sure enough, fruit was delivered to my house on the Thursday!).

How do you think winning the award will impact your profile in the wider industry?

We hope it shows that there’s space and appetite for bold ideas in business travel. The industry doesn’t always reward risk-taking, especially when it comes from a younger team, so winning this award is a signal that the landscape is changing. It’s a nice stamp of credibility, not just for the work, but for the way we went about it, focusing on the key point that business travel and the industry itself should be enjoyed.

What advice would you give to anyone considering entering the awards?

Don’t play it safe. Enter the work you actually loved making, even if it feels a bit weird, or not what you think an awards panel expects. WingsTV was a bit of a wild idea when we first pitched it but we just ran with it. We didn’t enter WingsTV thinking we’d tick all the usual boxes; we just knew we’d done something the industry hadn’t really seen before. If your work has real intent behind it, that will come through.

Where are you keeping your award?

It’s currently sitting on a podium in the middle of the marketing desks with a photo from the night next to it for all to see (obviously we are shy about things like that in marketing!).
