What does it mean to you to win a 2024 Business Travel People Award?
It is such a rewarding feeling to be recognised for the effort that I’ve put into changing the industry. Many strategies within the sustainability space go unrecognised. It is very exciting to be seen and celebrated.
How did you feel when your name was called?
I was over the moon. It was surreal to be celebrated by such a huge audience, and in all honesty, I had to beat some stiff competition – I expected the Virgin Flight100 team to win. It was such a rush!
What was the reaction of your family, friends and colleagues when you won the award?
They didn’t expect anything else and felt it was well deserved. As always, they overestimate me and believe that I am unstoppable when it comes to changing the world for good.
How do you think winning the award will impact your profile in the wider industry?
I hope it will give me more visibility, as I am on a mission to reduce the climate impact of aviation. To do this, we need to reach more people who will do their fair share to turn our industry around. I would like to make an appeal to anyone who would like to get the ball rolling. They can contact me or the TAC team at TAC@skyteam.com or robin.spierings@klm.com.
What advice would you give to anyone considering entering the awards?
Give it a shot. If you don’t try, you won’t succeed. And it is a wonderful experience worth the time needed for submission. Show grit and keep going!
Where will you be keeping your award?
In my study at home – a constant reminder while I work.
