Q&A: Donna Fitzgerald, Clarity Executive Director

As Clarity launches a specialist division for entertainment and media, we checked in with Donna Fitzgerald, who is heading up the new venture

Why did you decide to launch Clarity Entertainment & Media?

This sector encompasses so many different companies and industries – TV, film, media production, music labels, touring solo artists and bands, fashion houses, and creative arts – it’s vast and it’s growing. We saw a gap in the market for Clarity to create a specialist division purely focussed on these industries. This is a whole new direction for us, so we needed to invest in bringing people on board who are highly-experienced in managing travel for this sector, and who are passionate about what they do. It’s been months in the planning but we are really excited that everything has come together and we are ready to launch to market.

How significant is this development for Clarity?

It’s very significant for Clarity. Expanding into the entertainment and media sector represents strategic growth opportunities for our business. The new division also complements our existing specialist propositions, Destination Sport, and Brighter (our meetings and events offering). If the success and growth of those two specialist divisions are anything to go by, we are confident that Clarity Entertainment & Media will rapidly follow suit.

Why do clients in this sector need specialist travel services?

This is a niche sector where clients have demanding, challenging and distinctive needs. It’s not just about getting from A to B and booking flights and hotels. Clients have complex logistical requirements, as they are often transporting high-end production kit and hundreds of bags, as well as people, crew, artists, musical instruments. For example, they need support with private charters to reach destinations for filming in remote locations, carnet assistance, excess baggage waivers, crew management, VIP itineraries, and every tiny detail in between.

This is a competitive space, with well-established players. What makes your proposition different?

Fundamentally it comes down to the expertise of our people and a human-led approach to making sure every detail of every trip is taken care of. The team that we have appointed are exceptionally experienced and tackle every challenge with ‘out of the box thinking’, whether that’s for a TV documentary being filmed in Antarctica, or organising wardrobe freight for Paris Fashion week. Crucially this approach is backed by the strength and reputation of the Clarity brand, technology, buying power and people culture. This means we can give customers 24/7 service and support, exclusive entertainment fares and access to negotiated rates, full reporting & MI, and cutting edge ClarityGo solutions.

What does the future look like for Clarity Entertainment & Media

The entertainment, media and creative sectors are currently huge areas of growth in the UK market due to backing by government tax breaks and funding. Our primary focus for now is rolling out our proposition, building our presence and expanding our global footprint. We see huge potential in the American, Canadian and Middle East markets which will be our key areas of growth.
