OYO launches scheme to help NHS workers

OYO Hotels & Homes is giving the public the chance to help treat frontline healthcare workers to a night’s stay in one of its hotels.

It has launched a new ‘virtual hotel’ – OYO Rooms for Carers – where people can book overnight stays for £25 per room, per night.

Room nights will then be passed over to NHS trusts for healthcare workers to redeem at their nearest OYO hotel between now and the end of May.

“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to NHS staff working tirelessly on the front line and OYO Rooms for Carers is our way of saying thank you,” said Rishabh Gupta, Head of OYO UK.

“We are beginning with rooms for NHS workers, but if the support is there, we’d also love to open this up to more organisations providing vital services.”

Hotels under the OYO brand are all independently-owned, small businesses that partner with OYO for revenue management, technology support and branding.

There are dozens of OYO hotels within a 2km radius of hospitals around the UK.

OYO is not taking a commission on these bookings and the full revenue will go directly to the hotels accommodating NHS workers to help cover operational and staffing costs.

Last week, it was confirmed that Cardiff Council had taken over OYO Cardiff Central Hotel to help provide accommodation for homeless people during the coronavirus pandemic.

OYO is in talks with other local councils to see if any of its hotels can be used for this and other purposes.
