Oneworld opens first fully-branded lounge in Europe

The oneworld alliance has launched its first fully-branded European lounge in Amsterdam.

In Schiphol Airport’s non-Schengen departure area, the 473 square-metre lounge is a “futuristic, vibrant, spacious and bright” space developed in collaboration with ASPIRE, the lounge subsidiary of global aviation ground services provider Swissport.

The lounge is open daily between 5:30am and 10:00pm for eligible oneworld Emerald and Sapphire customers departing from Schiphol outside of the Schengen area on oneworld flights, as well as First and Business Class customers travelling with oneworld member airlines.

It’s located no more than 10 minutes’ walk from the member airlines’ departure gates.

Eight oneworld member airlines – American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc and Royal Jordanian – operate non-stop flights to and from Schiphol.

In a nod to its location, bespoke lighting pieces are inspired by the spherical lights on many of Amsterdam’s iconic arched canal bridges, which is also reflected in the shape of the entrance portal itself.

“The city’s birds were also a source of playful inspiration for designers with individual bird silhouettes perching over the lounge bar, with one even seen to be blowing bubble gum,” said a spokesman.

The Amsterdam opening comes after the launch of oneworld’s first premium lounge at Incheon International Airport, Seoul, in January.
