News in brief: Wizz Air, Travel Planet, Hyatt and Agiito

Wizz Air is to stop flying from Cardiff this month, blaming the “challenging macro-economic environment and high operational costs including fuel”. The airline opened the Welsh base in April 2022 and is currently operating two routes from the airport to Milan and Bucharest, but said flights will cease from January 25.

Travel Planet has appointed James Diaz as CEO in the UK as Robert Gilhooly steps into to an advisory role. Diaz has over 20 years’ experience in corporate travel, ground transportation, payments, and travel management, joining Travel Planet in 2019 after working with American Express for nine years.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has opened FirstName Bordeaux, a lifestyle hotel joining the JdV by Hyatt collection of independent hotels. Located in the heart of the historic port city, it offers 147 guest rooms and suites, divided into seven distinct categories – Cocoon, Canopée, Carat, Collector Suites, and FirstRoom.

Agiito has donated over £32,000 in gifts, charity fundraising and time spent volunteering for causes across the UK, including £7,233 as part of its efforts to raise £10,000 for Macmillan. This was achieved through a series of activities throughout the year, including bake sales, sweepstakes, auction and fitness challenges.
