Martin Ferguson steps down from Amex GBT role

Martin Ferguson, American Express Global Business Travel Vice President Global Communications, Public Affairs and Global Events, has stepped down from the role.

He has been with Amex GBT for nearly nine years, initially joining as Director EMEA Communications and Public Affairs.

Ferguson will remain on the GBTA Europe Board.

Amex GBT is currently waiting to hear whether UK competition authorities will allow it to buy CWT in a proposed $570 million deal initially announced in March.

The Competition and Markets Authority is currently undergoing an in-depth ‘phase two’ investigation into the merger. A final report is due to be published in January, with the CMA’s final decision scheduled for January 26 2025.

Before joining Amex GBT, Ferguson also worked as a journalist and Editor and co-founded The Business Travel People Awards, which were sold in 2017 to BMI Publishing, the parent of The Business Travel Magazine.

He was also on the ITM Board of Directors from January 2018 to February 2024 and was previously on the Advisory Board of ACTE, the Association of Corporate Travel Executives, which ceased operations due to the impact of the Covid pandemic.
