What does it mean to you to win a 2024 Business Travel People Award?
This is something I have been working towards throughout my whole career. It was always a personal goal of mine, to win an industry award. To actually achieve this was an unbelievably rewarding moment and something I am very proud of. This allows for me to show others that if you set yourself personal objectives and work hard, then you can achieve any goals you set yourself. That moment of hearing my name called out will be something I will forever remember.
How did you feel when your name was called?
Immediately relieved. It had been quite a long time since I got confirmation that I had been shortlisted. This award was the one that I really wanted! I became very overwhelmed as I could see the support and appreciation from all around the room — even from those who I had never met. It was a very special moment.
What was the reaction of your family, friends and colleagues when you won the award?
My award was one of the later ones to be read out at around 10pm. We have two very young children at home, so my wife had actually fallen asleep by the time I had won. I did, however, receive an excited message of from her the next morning as she knew how much it meant to me. I came home to chocolates and a ‘Bravo’ balloon.
How do you think winning the award will impact your profile in the wider industry?
I think it will help raise awareness of my profile and set an example to other people who want to win awards and make a difference.
What advice would you give to anyone considering entering the awards?
To think outside of the box and concentrate on what sets you apart from others in the industry. I have been keen to go above and beyond my role and make a difference to customers and the industry. I think this was a key reason why I won.
Where will you be keeping your award?
Right above my desk at home. It will be a constant reminder of what I have managed to achieve and that there is light at the end of the tunnel of some of the tougher days — we all have them.
