Bolt enters the London ride-hailing market

Transportation platform Bolt has launched in London this week, promising lower fares, improved safety and much-needed competition for the on-demand market.

Previously known as Taxify, the relaunched company now covers private cars, e-scooters and motorbikes, as well as food delivery in some parts of the world.

The new Bolt app will feature a panic button for users in London which alerts the Metropolitan Police directly. Drivers can also access an in-app panic button in the same way.

“We’re excited to be entering the UK market by launching Bolt in the nation’s vibrant and cosmopolitan capital,” says Markus Villig, founder and CEO of Bolt.

“London deserves more choice in ride-hailing and we believe Bolt offers what passengers and drivers want: a fair, reliable and affordable service.”

Samuel Raciti, Expansion Manager at Bolt, adds: “Our trips are cheaper, safer and more reliable than the alternatives. Customers will save on average between 5% and 10% on each trip with our lower fares.”

The Bolt app is available to download now and can be used for trips across Greater London and to Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton airports.

Bolt was originally founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, and currently operates in 100 cities across 30 countries in Europe, Africa, West Asia, North America and Australia.
