Robin Hood and his band of merry men might have moved on, but Nottingham now has its own band of modern day merrymakers in the form of a large student population. The city's two universities are among the biggest employers in the area, while the city is also gaining recognition for its strength in life sciences, digital content and clean technologies. The chemist chain, Boots, was founded in Nottingham and is still based in the city, while Capital One and the Inland Revenue also have a significant presence

A banqueting and exhibition suite is the largest space, while a conference theatre can seat 500 and numerous smaller rooms have capacity for as few as ten delegates in a boardroom set up. Adjacent to the De Vere venue is the Orchard Hotel, a 202-room, eco-friendly hotel with four meeting rooms of its own.

The highly regarded Hart's Hotel opened in 1997 and enjoys excellent views over the city from its secluded gardens. A ten-minute drive from Nottingham lies Woodborough Hall, a classic country house hotel dating from the 17th century but with a past that stretches right back to the 11th century. Getting there:Flights to East Midlands International Airport (around 25 minutes from Nottingham city centre) are available from Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey and Guernsey. Trains from London to Nottingham and East Midlands Parkway take as little as one hour, 45 minutes. By road, the city is easily accessed via the M1.
