Monarch House, Kensington, London

THE APARTMENT: A collection of 41 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, privately owned and opened in 1987. The apartments are graded four-star by Visit England.

THE CHECK-IN: The apartments were conveniently located on the corner of Earls Court Road and Kensington High Street with parking underneath accessed on Earls Court Road. There is also a 24-hour reception accessed from Kensington High Street. The paperwork was completed quickly and I was handed the apartment keys.

THE APARTMENT: Mine was a three-bed apartment on the fifth floor and it was very spacious, to say the least! You are welcomed into a large hallway that you could almost call an entrance room complete with stylish tables and coat rack. The master bedroom had a super-king size bed, digital TV, comfortable chairs and expansive storage. To get to the ensuite bathroom, you are treated to a walk in wardrobe before heading into a luxurious marbled bathroom complete with double sinks, bath, toilet and rain forest shower. Nice little additions included a range of toiletries as well as a very comfortable bath robe. The second bedroom had twin beds, sofa and plenty of storage and its own ensuite bathroom incorporating a walk-in shower, toilet and yet more storage. Bedroom three was also sizeable with a king-sized bed, digital TV, DVD players, player, chaise longue and good storage. There was a separate bathroom off the hall with toilet and shower. Two large doors in the hallway open up to reveal the utility space including a washer, dryer, sink, ironing board, iron and clotheshorse. Extra towels were also included. The large lounge was tastefully furnished with a corner sofa, coffee table, dining suite for six, digital TV, DVD player, stereo system, desk and lots of storage. Sliding doors opened onto a roof terrace with rattan style furniture. The kitchen was well equipped with an American-style, fridge-freezer, and included a Nespresso coffee machine.

THE FACILITIES: The property has a 24-hour reception/concierge service, secure parking underneath, a daily maid service with a twice-weekly linen change, free wifi and room service provided by an outside caterer. There is a lift to all floors with easy wheelchair accessibility and a large secure private garden.

THE VERDICT: A very spacious and luxurious property for a very comfortable stay. The parking was a real bonus. It’s also close to the tube and the concierge was extremely helpful. Being right on Kensington High Street, there were plenty of places to eat and lots to do right on the doorstep.
