European airline completes €200 million cabin refresh

Finnair has completed a €200 million long-haul cabin renewal.

The cabin refresh was started in 2022 and all of the airline’s fleet of long-haul A350s and A330s has now been refurbished.

The cabin was inspired by Finnair’s “Nordic design language” and features a warm, dark, comforting colour scheme consistent with the design of the airline’s non-Schengen lounges.

The project included the introduction of new Business Class seating developed in collaboration with Collins Aerospace, a new Premium Economy cabin and an Economy Class refresh. Designed to maximise space, the Business Class fixed shell lounge seat enables a variety of sitting and sleeping positions.

Passengers can now experience Finnair’s Premium Economy cabin on long-haul routes between the airline’s Helsinki hub and destinations in the US, Middle East and Asia.

“Since its launch in 2022, customer feedback on our revolutionary Business Class seat and brand-new Premium Economy cabin has been excellent, so we are proud to be able to offer the renewed cabin on flights to all our long-haul destinations,” said Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer of Finnair.

“We also know our customers value consistency and reliability, so to offer a uniform cabin concept across our whole fleet is a huge step on our customer experience journey. Customer satisfaction with our long-haul cabins has increased significantly with the cabin renewal,” he added.

The new long-haul experience was named the Cabin Concept of the Year winner at the 2022 Onboard Hospitality Awards, organised by OnBoard Hospitality Magazine, a sister publication to The Business Travel Magazine.

Finnair has also announced plans to renew the cabins of its regional E190 aircraft, which will receive a cabin inspired by the colours and design now seen across the long-haul fleet. The short-haul jets operate flights to Finnair’s Nordic destinations.

Additionally, Finnair will soon open a new larger lounge at the Schengen area of its Helsinki Airport hub for its Business Class customers and Finnair Plus tier members.
