easyJet has claimed an industry first with a new lower-weight paint trial to save fuel and cut emissions.
Developed by Mankiewicz Aviation Coatings, the sustainable solution reduces the amount of paint previously needed for easyJet’s livery colours.
The new coat has already been applied to 38 aircraft and will be rolled out gradually to easyJet’s entire fleet. It will offer a 27kg weight reduction per plane.
After completion in late 2029, it is predicted that up to 1,296 tonnes of fuel will be saved. This is equivalent to 4,095 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
easyJet is the first airline in the world to trial the paint solution with Dublin-based MRO specialist MAAS Aviation.
