DGI has secured Newcastle University as its largest UK client following a competitive tender process.
The travel management company, which specialises in the academic and non-profit sectors, has signed a three-year agreement with the university, with options to extend.
DGI said it will deliver a fully-managed travel programme across all departments, supporting a global community of around 28,000 students and staff across campuses in the UK, Malaysia and Singapore.
Starting this month (May), the partnership will introduce a “more streamlined, self-service approach to travel booking”, enabling staff to book independently online while giving the educational establishment “greater visibility of travel activity, spend and policy compliance”.
DGI now supports more than 60 universities across the UK, Europe and the US, including Northumbria University and Teesside University.
James Parkhouse, the newly-appointed CEO at DGI, said: “Welcoming Newcastle University as our largest UK client is a significant moment for DGI and reflects the continued expansion of our work within higher education.
“As a specialist TMC for academia, we work extensively with higher education institutions and understand their unique operational requirements. That experience enables our team to provide informed, consistent support across the sector, supported by intuitive technology and access to specialist airfares.
“We look forward to supporting Newcastle University as it transitions to a more streamlined approach to travel management.”
Anna Munro, Director of Financial Control at Newcastle University said: “Working with DGI has been straightforward and positive. They demonstrated clear value for money during the tender process and have provided great support during the transition. We look forward to working with them and benefiting from the tools and services they have to offer.”
