Climate change tops business travel agenda

Climate change has been deemed the biggest issue facing the business travel industry, according to the Business Travel Show's latest poll, while the challenge of making travel sustainable has made its first appearance in the survey.

Global warming and reducing carbon emissions have shot up the agenda this year, jumping seven places in the survey’s league table to be the number one concern for 2020.

The Business Travel Show’s ninth annual survey also revealed cutting costs is – for the fourth time – the biggest challenge facing business travel buyers, and pressure to reduce costs will impact the way travel will be bought and managed in 2020.

The poll of 114 European travel buyers found Brexit stress appears to be subsiding, falling into fourth place after being the top issue for the industry last year.

NDC continues to be a concern for the industry as a whole, remaining in third place in the survey’s league table, while enforcing compliance and engaging travellers is a recurring challenge for buyers and managers.

Meanwhile, sustainability has made its debut in the poll, appearing in ninth place of the top ten challenges for travel buyers and managers this year.
