The new CitizenM Amstel Amsterdam officially opened in late September close to the Amstel river on the edge of the city’s famous canal belt, within walking distance of Amsterdam’s business district and main visitor attractions.

Housed in an existing structure dating back to 1928, the hotel has 88 guest rooms, a split-level check-in area and ground-floor communal area with a 24/7 bar, canteenM kitchen and co-working spaces.

Designed by CitizenM’s Amsterdam-based partner Concrete, the hotel features original artworks, bookcases full of literature and quirky objects, and stylish ergonomic furniture by Vitra.

Rooms are compact with large windows, working areas, extra-large king-size customised CitizenM beds and rain showers, with lighting, television, blinds and climate all controlled by an easy-to-use iPad.

Novel room settings allow guests to customise their environment according to their mood. The latest technological advancements have been embraced by the hotel, which also features a self check-in desk.

There are also two fully-equipped meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 16 people, and include AV equipment and cables, designer furniture and blackboard and whiteboard walls to write on.

According to the brand, the hotel is “poised to become a favourite location in the Netherlands’ capital for leisure and business travellers seeking an affordable luxury alternative to traditional hotels.”

CitizenM now has 17 hotels in key cities across Europe, North America and Asia such as London, Paris, New York and Copenhagen. New properties in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, Boston USA and Jakarta, Indonesia are set to open soon.
