THE PROPERTY: Cheval has eight locations in London but this is its flagship property. It has 159 units and is well located in the City of London and adjacent to the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and Tower Pier for riverboat services along the Thames.
THE CHECK-IN: The lobby was more akin to a luxury hotel than a serviced apartment reception, with two murals depicting medieval life when the site was once a working dock hanging above a water feature, plus stone mosaics on the floor and leather seating populated by well-heeled guests. I was soon checked in and enjoyed studying the fascinating black and white photographs of historic London that adorn corridor walls as I headed to my apartment.
THE ROOM: I’m not sure I’ve witnessed such impressive views from any London accommodation before, with the apartment’s floor-to-ceiling windows offering magical twilight views across the Tower of London and Tower Bridge in one direction and HMS Belfast and the Shard in the other. And the novelty didn’t wear off throughout my stay. The furnishings and facilities were befitting of Three Quays’ excellent location, with this two-bedroom unit featuring a large living, dining and kitchen area and three – yes three – small balconies. The kitchen had a dishwasher, hobs, fridge-freezer, microwave, coffee machine, oven and a welcome box of basic essentials. Elsewhere, there was a washing machine and tumble dryer, a safe and spacious bathroom (and an additional ensuite bathroom off the master bedroom).
THE FACILITIES: There’s a 24-hour reception and concierge, fitness suite, daily housekeeping and, at ground level, several river and street-side coffee shops and restaurants.
THE VERDICT: While it’s easy to dwell on the views that Three Quays’ River View apartments command – which make this a top choice for those looking to wow executives visiting from overseas – it should be noted that this property comfortably fulfils its ‘luxury residence’ billing with well-equipped and tastefully decorated apartments and good service too.
