Capita appoints Chief Operating Officer

Capita Travel and Events has appointed Donna Fitzgerald to its executive team as Chief Operating Officer. She starts on May 1.

CEO James Parkhouse said: “Donna has extensive experience in the business travel, meetings and events industries and has been an integral part of the business for the past 30 years.

“Progressing through roles from operations, account management, bid management, customer solutions and most recently Director of Sales and Solutions, Donna’s knowledge and experience means she has an end-to-end insight of our business and will ensure our strategy aligns to our vision, with a strong focus on our customers, our people and culture.”

Fitzgerald replaces Nel Flint who left the business to work for a charitable organisation for children’s learning.

Earlier this month parent Capita Plc confirmed plans to dispose of its travel and meetings business as it announced its financial results.

James Parkhouse, CEO Capital Travel and Events, told The Business Travel Magazine the TMC was supportive of its parent company’s plans to dispose of its non-core businesses.

“For some time, we have known that what we offer is very different to the other businesses sitting within Capita and feel this long-term plan has been well considered and provides an optimistic future for our business,” he said.

“We all know our industry has by far, been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic and the financial reports come as no surprise. On the contrary, 2020 saw one of our strongest years in new business wins, again pointing to a bright future for Travel and Events.

“Our focus remains on continuing to support our people, customers and partners as we all work through these challenging times together.”

Capita Plc is expected to wait until late 2022 or early 2023, when the sector has recovered from the pandemic, before making the sale.
