Users of British Sign Language (BSL) can now enjoy direct access to Aer Lingus’ customer service team via a video relay service provided by SignLive.
In a partnership that aims to enhance accessibility for BSL users, including deaf and hard-of-hearing customers, the service is available 24/7 and can be easily accessed through the SignLive website or app.
Once registered via the SignLive app, users will be able to navigate to Aer Lingus and contact the team.
Customers will be connected to a qualified online BSL interpreter, who will then relay the conversation to a member of the Aer Lingus team.
There are an estimated 151,000 users of BSL across the UK with approximately 25,000 using it as their first language.
Susanne Carberry, Chief Customer Officer at Aer Lingus, said: “SignLive is an important new assistance tool that underpins Aer Lingus’ commitment to improving accessibility and inclusivity. The introduction of SignLive ensures that our customers who use British Sign Language have more options when seeking assistance. This is the latest step we’re taking to ensure that all passengers can engage with our customer care team and access the support they need.”
Steph Lotz, General Manager at SignLive UK, added: “I’m proud to see Aer Lingus partner with SignLive to offer remote BSL interpreting. This bold step reinforces our commitment to breaking down barriers and creating truly inclusive travel experiences. Together, let’s transform lives through conversations; empowering deaf travellers to explore the world with confidence and ease.”
