Virgin Hotels confirms first European property
The Virgin Hotels group will open its first European property in Edinburgh, it announced this week.
Sir Richard Branson has revealed plans to ‘re-envision’ the Scottish capital’s India Buildings on Victoria Street, converting it to a 225-room hotel scheduled to open in 2020.
The property will feature multiple dining and drinking outlets – including the brand’s flagship Commons Club concept – as well as numerous meeting spaces.
"Edinburgh is such an iconic city and we’re thrilled to be able to say it will be the home of the first Virgin Hotel in the UK and across Europe,” says Branson, Founder of the Virgin Group.
Edinburgh Council’s Gavin Barrie said it was a “huge coup” for the city.
Virgin Hotels Chicago (pictured) opened in 2015 and remains the group's only hotel in operation, but will be joined by a San Francisco property this year.
Hotels in Nashville, Dallas, Washington DC, New Orleans, New York and Silicon Valley are also in the pipeline, and the group is also exploring opportunities in Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, Austin, Seattle and London.
