HBAA reports growing M&E spend

Spending on meetings and events is on the rise, according to the Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA), which also reports increasing delegate numbers.

The HBAA Meetings Barometer shows average spend per meeting in the UK has risen 31%, from £1,624 in the first six months of 2016 to £2,133 in the same period this year.

The report also found total spending on meetings with HBAA members over the same period was £70.6million - compared with £64.8million last year - and average spend per delegate increased by 29%, from £72.87 to £93.83.

Louise Gaoalen, HBAA Chair said: “Our first Meetings Barometer has certainly produced some fascinating and often encouraging revelations. This gives a real-time snapshot of trends, and is so valuable to all in the industry when forecasting or budgeting.”

The barometer also found meeting sizes have increased 12%, from 49 to 55, and DDRs have decreased from £33.29 to £32.94.

London has been found to be the most popular location for meetings, with Birmingham second and Glasgow in third, closely followed by Newcastle, Bristol, Leeds and Manchester.
