THE CHECK-IN: Staff were efficient and friendly and, while it wasn’t exactly busy, the process of checking in was quick and easy. The style of the hotel is immediately apparent upon check-in where a large flaming set-piece suggests a modern and visually striking property.

THE ROOM: I stayed in a River View Standard Double room, which was a good size and included a view of the Mersey River (which became a lot less appealing when high winds rolled in). The bathroom was the standout feature, as it not only included a large bath but also a walk-in shower. My room also included a large bed, desk, several power outlets, a flatscreen television and a sofa. It also comes equipped with a fully stocked mini-fridge and bar. While the room was impressive, the fire alarm system is connected to the apartments above the hotel, thus when its alarm went off at 3am, so did the hotel’s – not the wake-up call I was after!

THE FACILITIES: Free wifi was available throughout the hotel, with good speeds in the room allowing for pain-free internet browsing. The ground floor has a bar, which doubles as a restaurant that serves up comfort food and a range of cocktails. Also on the ground floor is a brasserie, which is a luxury affair where breakfast, lunch and dinner are all available. The hotel also has four meeting spaces equipped with projectors, flexible seating arrangements and friendly staff on hand to help. The rooms can be combined into one space for up to 118 people theatre-style.

THE VERDICT: The boutique style of the hotel goes hand in hand with good service and amenities. While certain design choices might not appeal to everyone, the hotel's great location and facilities make it an excellent choice for travellers staying in Liverpool. The room itself had the staple amenities for business travellers as well as a few additional luxuries
