Foxhills Club & Resort, Surrey
THE HOTEL: Foxhills is a hotel, events venue, health club and golf club all rolled into one, located in the crook of the M3 and M25 (though you wouldn't know it) and around 20 minutes from Heathrow Airport. It has been family owned since 1983.
THE CHECK-IN: Arriving on a Sunday afternoon, I was expecting the resort to be reasonably quiet but instead it was busy with golfers, health club members and guests enjoying a late lunch. Reception is in the 19th century manor house at the heart of the resort and I was soon wending my way through a cluster of buildings to one of the two newly refurbished deluxe suites
THE ROOM: The light-filled suite comprised a ground floor lounge with sofa, desk and small dining table, and an upstairs bedroom and bathroom with exposed beams, subtle floral wallpaper, gilded mirrors and thick carpets – a trendy, restrained country house hotel style. The bathroom had a walk-in shower and huge free-standing bath .
THE BUSINESS: There's a diverse range of private dining, meeting and event spaces (for up to 180 delegates) and a wide array of team-building activities can be arranged at the resort.
THE FACILITIES: If sport is the order of the day then Foxhills probably has it covered. It has two 18-hole golf courses (Longcross was named one of England's top 100 courses in 2015), a par three 9-hole course, 11 tennis courts, extensive gym, cycling club (the resort was home to Team GB's cycling squad during the 2012 Olympics) and four swimming pools (two indoor and two outdoor). There's also an award-winning spa, the Summerhouse and Nineteen for light bites and the excellent Manor Restaurant.
THE VERDICT: There's a wide range of different room categories at the resort (but none in the main manor house itself) so be sure of what you're booking. It's a tranquil country escape from London (well placed for Heathrow and businesses in the eastern M4 corridor) and is chock-full of facilities. Overnight guests can make use of the resort's facilities for the remainder of the day after checking out – a nice touch.
THE DETAILS: Foxhills Club & Resort, Stonehill Road, Ottershaw, Surrey KT16 0EL. Rates for one of Foxhills’ two new Deluxe Suites cost from £290 per night including VAT, breakfast and access to the resort's grounds and facilities. www.foxhills.co.uk
