LOT Polish Airlines Business Class

THE FLIGHT: A two and a half hour flight from Heathrow to Warsaw for LOT to show off its new B787 Dreamliner. I travelled in business class, with seats in a 2-2-2 set-up.

THE CHECK-IN: Having checked-in online and with only hand baggage, I walked straight through the impressive new Terminal 2. There were numerous members of staff offering help but I used the fasttrack security channel and was airside in less than three minutes and quickly found the Senator Lufthansa lounge to which I had access.

THE LOUNGE: The bright, spacious lounge included lockers for smaller luggage. There was a choice of chicken tikka masala, soups, salads and rolls plus a good selection of drinks, desserts and fruit. There was wifi access, quieter work stations and a boardroom-style table. The lounge was less than five minutes' walk from the gate, where I used the priority lane for boarding.

THE SEAT: There were 18 seats in the business class cabin. The Dreamliner’s large windows let in an abundance of natural light. The seat had various recline positions down to fully flat. The table stowed in a side panel and there were numerous storage bins and pockets. Inflight entertainment was available on a 15-inch touchscreen, although it was quite a distance from my seat so I used the handset. Some selections were a little difficult to see but I gather this is being addressed. There were both USB and power sockets in the seat.

THE SERVICE: Before take-off I was offered a choice of Champagne, orange juice or water, plus a towel and small canapé. A further drink, savouries and an amenity kit followed and the meal service included cold roast beef slices or sorrel soup for starters, followed by chicken with mash and broccoli or Teriyaki salmon. Dessert was a choice of yoghurt or ice cream. The meal ended with Polish mead.

THE VERDICT: The business class cabin on the Dreamliner is very spacious and the extra-large windows offered great light. The crew were obviously proud of the product and this was reflected in their enthusiastic manner and service throughout the flight
